FELONY ANIMAL CRUELTY INVESTIGATION
Wednesday, February 26, 2025

Sheriff Carter Weaver wants to notify the community on the investigation into seven dogs that were shot and killed earlier this week. Late in the evening on February 23, deputies were called to a property on Gapway Road in reference to animal cruelty. Upon arrival, they found seven dead pitbulls, each with a single gunshot wound to the top of its head. All seven were chained and secured in the yard of the property. A witness testified that the animals were unharmed when she checked on them earlier in the afternoon of the same day.
The incident is being actively investigated. The area was canvassed for witnesses and one person of interest has been interviewed and provided corroborating evidence of his whereabouts at the time of the killings. A veterinarian autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning to retrieve any bullets or other evidence of the crime that may exist.
